Favela Champions
Empowering strong female role models in the favelas with Football.
In the context prior to the beginning of the Olympic Games in Rio, a women's soccer championship was organized with 6 teams from different communities of Rio de Janeiro in the Morro da Chatuba, called Favela Champions. It was organized by the social project Favela Street, which has as slogan "Creating a new generation of strong role models through the power of street football".
It is a project created by the former player of the Dutch soccer team, Roxanne Hehakaija, better known as Rocky, who is a familiar face in the international street football world, as the only female member of the Street Legends, the best street Football team in the world.
A team made up of girls from this project have been world champions in the Street Child Worldcup in 2014.
Some of these photographs are part of the collective project Real Game, about the social side of the Olympics Games Rio 2016: http://realgamephoto.tumblr.com/
