Biography
Sebastian Gil Miranda is a documentary photographer focuses on humanitarian, environmental, cultural and social issues. He work as a freelance, generating independent, individual and collective, projects. He born in Paris, France, grow up in Misiones, northeast Argentina, and based in Buenos Aires. He holds a degree in Psychology from the University of Buenos Aires and previous studies in Architecture at the National University of La Plata. In addition to Musical training, in Literature and Dramatic Arts. He took a basic course of photography and the rest of his training on this field is self-taught, integrating all his previous studies, especially the development of the look and spatiality of architecture, lights and shadows of theater direction, and narrative ability of literature. He was a university professor in subjects of research, communication and human rights at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), and at University of Palermo. He work actively collaborating with social foundations, worked on human rights themes, using his work as a means of social change. He collaborate with many social projects in favelas in Rio de Janeiro and in the most disadvantaged areas of his country. He is founder and member of Photographers for Change. 1º prize at 2015 Sony World Photography Award, named Photographer of the Year in social "Campaign" with its series "Shoot Ball, Not Gun”. His photo "Ball Religion" was selected as cover of the 2015 official catalog of the prize. 1º prize at "People's Choice Prize" in Photoville 2014 in New York, with its series "Children Playing on the Street of Cuba”. "Performance Award" in the Humanity Photo Award 2015, organized by the China Folklore Photographic Association and UNESCO, for his work entitled "Diversity in Tanzania". His work was published in world medias like BBC, The Guardian, CNN, National Geographic, The Atlantic, Vice News, Le Nouvel Observateur, British Journal of Photography, Huffington Post, Lenta, Photo, Media Part, Marie Claire, O Globo, Gramma, among others. He gave workshops and made solo and group exhibitions in various countries around the world: France, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Cuba, England, Japan, China, Romania, Netherlands, United States, among others. Director of the collective photo project Warld Cup during the 2014 Brazil FIFA World Cup and founding member of the Collective Photo Project Real Game during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Co-creator of the social project Inside Light Project, with child refugees in Lesvos, Greece, 2016. He collaborate with Getty Reportage and Barcroft Media.
